Jules Kulea - Dear Eliza

About me

My primary focus in our sessions is building a therapeutic relationship where you feel accepted, safe, and free to explore your inner world. I specialize in helping clients who are experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, interpersonal issues, and those are feeling just plain stuck. I also love working with parents, my goal is to help you navigate the murky waters of pregnancy and parenthood and to support you in taking care of yourself too. I have three young children; I deeply understand the joy, gratification, and heart-melting moments of parenting, as well as the exhaustion, frustration, and pull-your-hair out moments.

More about me

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. But prior to becoming a therapist, I was a global gypsy who backpacked around the world for three years. I was feeling a little confused about the direction of my career but while traveling I received a vocational calling to work with others as a therapist. I decided to take a leap towards this calling and after completing my Master’s in Counselling I completed my internship at Royal Columbian Hospital, where I found my passion for working with women, and mothers who were experiencing postpartum anxiety and depression. Since then I have been working in the mental health and wellness field for about 15 years where I have worked with clients in many different capacities, including Vancouver’s Downtown East Side helping clients with addiction, trauma, and severe mental illness.

During my travels I discovered my passion for meditation and am still an active meditation practitioner. I have studied in monasteries across the world; including India, Thailand, Burma, and Sri Lanka and I like to share this practice with my clients when I can. I also use evidence based practices to nudge my clients in the direction they seek to go. These approaches include Gabor Mate’s Compassionate Inquiry and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Together, we will work somatically with your body, with the wisdom of your emotions, and your unconscious beliefs to uncover the root cause of what’s holding you back. Through our sessions, you will gain a deeper understanding of yourself and learn tools that you can use for a lifetime. I am deeply dedicated to helping my clients thrive throughout all of the varying stages of life.
